Vedic talismans (yantras) are written on a special bark called as Bhojapatra.  The bark of betula utilis is used for writing sacred mantras, which are placed in an amulet and worn around the neck OR kept in puja altars, for protection and blessing. This practice is mentioned in the Lakshmi Tantra, a Pancaratra text. According to the legend, the bark was also used as clothing by attendants of Lord Shiva.

The bark of Himalayan birch was used centuries ago in India as paper for writing lengthy scriptures and texts in Sanskrit and other scripts, particularly in historical Kashmir. Its use as paper for books is mentioned by early Sanskrit writers Kalidasa , Sushruta, and Varahamihira. In the late 19th century, Kashmiri pandits reported all of their books were written on Himalayan birch bark until Akbar introduced paper in the 16th century. The Sanskrit word for the tree is bhurja sharing a similarity with other Indo-European words that provide the origin for the common name "birch".

The Bhojpatra writing kit includes wooden writing stick, red sandal powder, ashtagandha powder, and herb granules. These powders are mixed with a small amount of water to create ink, which can then be used to write on the included Bhojpatra sheets. This combination allows you to engage in traditional writing practices that have deep cultural and spiritual significance.

To maintain the quality of the Bhojpatra sheets, it's important to store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid folding or crumpling the sheets to prevent damage. Handling them with clean hands will also help preserve their integrity for longer use.

Yes, the Bhojpatra writing kit is traditionally used for writing Vedic talismans or yantras, which are believed to offer protection and blessings. The written mantras can be placed in amulets worn around the neck or kept on puja altars, making it a valuable tool for spiritual practices and rituals.

Bhojpatra, derived from the bark of the Himalayan birch, has been used for centuries in India for writing sacred texts and scriptures. Historical figures like Kalidasa and Sushruta referenced its use, highlighting its importance in ancient literature and spiritual practices. This rich history adds a layer of authenticity and cultural depth to your writing experience.

The Bhojpatra writing kit includes two sheets, each measuring 5 inches by 5 inches. This compact size makes them easy to handle and suitable for writing short mantras or talismans. The dimensions are ideal for personal use or for incorporating into small puja setups.
