The name Tirupati, meaning the ‘the Lord of Lakshmi’. Because 'Sri' (Lakshmi) permanently settled down in Tirupati on Venkatesha's chest, he got the name 'Srinivasa.'  Goddess Laxmi resides in the chest of God Vishnu.

Lord Vishnu took the form of Venkatesha, in order to please Goddess Lakshmi. As per the legend, Goddess Lakshmi left Lord Vishnu, after sage Bhrigu kicked Vishnus chest. She took the form of Padmavati and finally Vekatesha married her.

Tirupati is in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is most famous for its Sri Venkateswara Temple dedicated to Vishnu. Lord Venkateswara is also called the Lord of the seven hills. This temple has acquired a special sanctity in the Hindu religion.  Lord Venkateswara's eyes are covered, because it is said that his gaze is so intense, it would scorch the universe.
