Worshiping snake protects you from evil efffects and harmful evil eyes. It can also placed in the foundation of the building in the Vastu Pooja at the time of starting construction, and it is believed that it supports long life of the building.

Our ancients believed that Lord Subrahmanya will come to bless us in the form of a snake. So, they used to worship snakes to respect the god and avoid any problems. In ancient times, people used to go to the ant hills, usually the home for snakes. After cleaning the surroundings, laying garlands, puja was performed to please the snake inside. They used to bound a turmeric thread around the snake's home. Then milk was poured inside the hill and eggs were put for the snake to eat. Next day, the worshippers would come back to take the sacred thread and tie it to their hands.
