Khandoba is a regional Hindu deity in Maharashtra, worshipped by all communities. It is also dignified as Martanda Bhairava, an incarnation of Shiva, having connection with Vaishnava and Jain traditions. He is the most popular patron deity of farming and herding castes, the hunters and gatherers, of the hills and forests of western Deccan. Khandoba is believed to have characteristics of Shiva, Bhairava, Surya and Kartikeya (Skanda). He is depicted either in the form of a Lingam, or as an image riding a bull or a horse.
