Lord Ganesha, the God of removing obstacles and bestowing knowledge and learning is one of the most worshipped Hindu gods all over the world. He is also called Siddhivinayak as, it is so believed that he will fulfil all wishes and will grant you with loads of knowledge. Siddhivinayak temple is a part of the Ashtvinayak temples that are located in and around Pune and dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
There is a lot of significance of Siddhivinayak temple. It is said that it is very difficult to please this form of Ganesha. The trunk of this deity is turned in the right side and this is one of the most popular forms of Ganapati. This is a Swambhu (not made by man) form of Ganesha. The main idol is kept in a brass frame. It is about three feet tall and 2.5 feet wide. The idol also has his consorts Riddhi and Siddhi sitting on his laps and its stomach is not too wide as compared to the other Ganesha idols. The temple faces north.
The Siddivinayak Temple is believed to be primarily built by Lord Vishnu, though later it was rebuilt by the Peshwas. It is so said that while Lord Brahma was on his way to create the world, Lord Vishnu fell asleep. Two demons came out of his ears and started troubling everyone. Upon the request of all Gods, Lord Vishnu tried to kill them, but failed. He then stated worshipping Ganesha. With his blessings he could finally defeat the demons. Hence the place is called Siddhatek and Lord Ganesha is called Siddhivinayak.
The trunk of Lord Ganesha in this form is towards the right side. The iDa naaDii is on the left side, while the pingalaa naaDii is on the right. The right turning nadi is the sun and will burn one if rules are violated. When the trunk is facing straight forward, then it signifies the sushumna is entirely open. Idols such as these are very rare and special. Even more special is the trunk where the trunk is swung up right in the air. It means the kundalini shakti has reached the sahasra permanently.
