According to traditional beliefs, whoever worships mother Kushmanda with true heart on the fourth day of Navratri, attains age, fame and strength. On the fourth day of the nine-day festival Goddess Durga took the form of Maa Kushmanda. Hence, on the fourth day of Navratri, Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped.

In seven of her hands, she holds a bow, arrow, Kamandalu, lotus, a jar of nectar, mace and discus. With the eighth hand, she holds a rosary that has all the eight Siddhis and nine Niddhis. She rides a lion which represents Dharma.
