According to Indian tradition, after marriage the arrival of the new bride at her new or marital home for the first time is also called as the Graha Pravesh. When the bride arrives at her new home, her mother-in-law, welcomes her with the traditional 'Aarti'. This is done in order to ward off any evil influences from her. After this, the bride kicks a vessel filled with rice and coins. This vessel is called as Mapta. This symbolizes the arrival of wealth and prosperity in her marital home.

It is then followed by another ritual wherein the bride puts her right foot onto a tray kept on the entrance of the house. The tray contains vermilion powder mixed with water or milk. She covers her both the feet in the red paste and enters the house bare feet, making footprints on the floor. This symbolizes the arrival of good luck and fortune in the new house. In India, the newly wedded bride is considered as Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Due to this the Graha pravesh of the new bride is a very auspicious ceremony.

The Mapta plays a vital role in Indian marriage ceremonies, specifically during the Graha Pravesh, or the bride's entry into her new home. It symbolizes the arrival of wealth and prosperity, as the bride kicks the vessel filled with rice and coins to signify her blessings for her new household. This traditional act is deeply rooted in cultural beliefs, marking the bride's transition into her marital life.

The Mapta is made of cardboard and features beautiful motifs, so it should be handled with care to maintain its appearance. To clean it, gently wipe with a dry cloth to avoid any moisture damage. It's best to store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or warping.

The Mapta measures 6 inches in diameter at the top and stands 4 inches tall, making it a compact yet significant item for display. It can be placed at the entrance of your home during the Graha Pravesh ceremony or kept as a decorative piece in your living area. Its elegant golden and white design complements various home decor styles.

While the Mapta is traditionally used during the Graha Pravesh ceremony for newly married brides, it can be repurposed for future celebrations or rituals that honor prosperity and good fortune. However, since it is made of cardboard, its durability may be limited, so careful handling is recommended if you plan to reuse it. Consider using it as a decorative item in your home to evoke memories of your special day.

The Mapta is crafted from cardboard, which allows for intricate designs and motifs to be printed in golden and white colors. This lightweight material makes it easy to handle and transport for ceremonies. However, as cardboard is not waterproof, it’s important to keep it dry and away from moisture to ensure it retains its beauty for the duration of your celebrations.
