Annapurna is said to be the incarnation of the Hindu goddess Parvati, who is one of the numerous forms of Shakti and wife of Shiva. Anna means “food” in Sanskrit and purna means “lled completely”.  Annapurna is the Goddess of the Kitchen and of Cooks.  Her statutes are often found in Hindu kitchens for her blessings. It is believed in India and Nepal when food is cooked with the spirit of holiness it becomes alchemy. Annapurna blesses the food and converts it to Amrita which is the Sanskrit word for delicious and healthy food which gives immortality.  People often call upon Annapurna to bless your food and food preparation kitchen.

As per the Brahma Purana, any person, male or female and belonging to any "Varna"- Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya or Shudra, who worships Parad idols daily is blessed with worldly pleasures and lastly achieve supreme salvation (Moksha). The Parad Idol gives to worshiper a life full of beauty, honor, fame, happiness, knowledge, and wisdom.

As per the Vedas, there is nothing more pure, pious and auspicious in Kaliyug than Parad. Parad is also found effective in controlling various diseases like High Blood Pressure, Asthma. Parad has special significance in Ayurveda too. Many ayurvedic medicine use parad as the chief ingredient for giving energy.
