He rush towards Shiva and requested him how he can satisfy the Ganesha hunger. The mother of Ganesha, Parvati gave him a plate of modak and asks him to serve this to Ganpati. After eating a single modak Ganesha was satisfied. Kuber was very embarrassed & he begs Ganesha to forgive him. After eating the huge quantity of food there was a burning sensation in his stomach. Parvati gave him a 21 stack of durva to eat Ganesha was relieved from the burning sensation. From that time durva appeases lord Ganesha. In Ganesh pujan durva is must.
