Saptashrungi temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.The goddess is described as ashta-bhuja (eight-armed)was gifted various weapons to slay Mahishasura.She holds differnts weapons in her arms as the trishula (trident) of Shiva, the sudarshana chakra of Vishnu, the shankha , the flames of the fire, the bow and arrow, the vajra and ghanta (bell) , Danda (cudgel) , akshamala , kamandalu , the rays of the sun-god Surya, the sword and shield of Kali, the parashu (axe) of Vishvakarma, the wine-cup of Kubera, gada (mace), lotus, lance and pasha.Mata is also known as Brahmasvarupini ("one who has form of Brahma") & appeared from the kamandalu (water-pot) of the creator-god Brahma.
