Vaman or the dwarf incarnation is the fifth incarnation of the Lord Vishnu. Lord Vaman killed the demon Bali, who had gained dominion over the Earth and had chased away the Gods from the heavens. The worshiper of Lord Vaman Shaligram Shila gets immense strength to fight against all odds, evils and enemies.

Lord Vamna is the 5th incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu. The name indicates One who has a small body. It was in the form of a child (child student in a gurukula) that Vaamana approached the divinely righteous Emperor Mahaabali to beg of him a little land, of the length of his tiny three steps-and the Lord measured in His three steps all the three worlds and thus conquered Mahaabali. He checked (Vamayati) the rising pride of possession in Bali, hence He, in that incarnation as a Vatu, is called Vaamana.

As Vishnu abides in these stones, all the gods dwell there, all the benevolent spirits and indeed the fourteen worlds reside in these stones.Hence, we have it as an assurance from Vishnu himself that whoever worships the salagrama-stone even once will surely be liberated: and also will obtain all prosperity here, while alive. (Padma-purana, Uttara-khanda, 127)

Importance or worshiping shaligram for mainly six values of life which are Righteous living, Wealth, Protection, good health, pleasures and Spiritual. Shaligram/ Saligram/ Shalagram/ Salagram is the most sacred stone worshipped by the Vaishnavas and also used to worship Lord Vishnu in an abstract form.
