Mysore Sandalwood has been especially valued for its  Indian fragrance, carving, medical and religious qualities.Sandalwood grows mainly in India in the state of Karnataka. The state accounts for about 70 per cent of the production, the rest mainly coming from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The tree grows naturally in fertile tropical forestlands with abundant rainfall. It is also cultivated It is used in preparing all types of perfume compositions especially Indian attars like Hina, Gulab, Kewda and Jasmine in which the natural essential oils from floral distillation are absorbed in sandalwood oil. Sandalwood has a rich, balsamic, sweet fragrance with delicate wood notes.

The attar has a woody, exotic smell, subtle and lingering and the color is pale yellow to pale gold.
