Mogra is also known as Butt Mogra or Arabian Jasmine. It is also heralded as Grand Duke of Tuscany. Botanically, Mogra is known as Jasminum sambac which is a typical species of jasmine inhabitant and belongs to Oleaceae family. Mogra is a tall shrub but a slow growing plant and bears beautiful gardenia type Mogra flowers. These flowers are white in color and grow in different shapes and sizes. As the plant matures and gets older, it bears even more fascinating flowers. Mogra plant grows in partial shade and requires moist and well drained soil. Mogra is well known for its sweet and exotic fragrance.
History
Its botanical name sambac is derived from the misapplication of the Sanskrit name Champaka which is a fragrant flowered shrub.
