Kanthi is a necklace of beads worn around the neck. "Kanth" means neck and because it’s worn around the neck it is called kanthi. It is the symbol of our surrender to the creator of this universe, the supreme almighty. The kanthi is the best symbol of one’s surrender, as it gives us the ultimate feeling of oneness with God.

One strand of the kanthi represents the Lord and the other represents the muktas (liberated souls) that live within Him. Once the Muktas enter the murti, they will eternally remain there. There is a union between them, i.e. they appear as one, but there is a difference between the master and the devotee. However, in reality they remain distinct in their nature and their qualities, with God remaining the master and the soul forever being the servant. This is the Vishishtadvait philosophy.

When Shri Ram reached Ayodhya after conquering Lanka, His subjects hoisted flags in every house symbolising victory and joy. It was the Gudi Padwa day on which Shaka Kings defeated the Huns; King Shalivahan defeated his enemies and hoisted the flag of victory. However, today Hindus should introspect if they are really worthy of hoisting the true flag of victory. That day celebrates still today as Gudi Padwa.

Use: Take a medium-length bamboo stick and tie this traditional cloth at the very top. Next, take a clean copper or bronze pot and place it upside down over the cloth at the top. This Gudi should then be hoisted at the doorway in a prominent position such that everybody can see it. The festivities begin early in the morning and the Gudi is worshipped five to ten minutes after sunrise.

1. The area selected for raising the Gudi should be cleaned and then a Swastik rangoli should be drawn on the ground. Turmeric and vermilion (Haldi-kumkum) should be offered at the center of the Swastik.
2. While raising the Gudi, the ‘Shiva-Shakti’ principle in the Universe should be invoked. This enables all the constituents of the Gudi to accept divine principles.
3.Put channel on that place where Rangoli Drawn.Take rice and spread on channel.put bamboo on spread rice.put sweet as oblation. Most of the time the menu for oblation is “Puran-poli”.
4. Attach clean & new cloth or sari ,take flowers ,neem leaves as well as nodules to the bamboo,wrap all this thing with thread and cover with silver-Gadu. 5. Finally raise the Gudi on channel.
